EXTREMELY LARGE WHALEBONE DITTY BOX that has a pincushion fitted into the top of the lid. Oval shaped measuring       10" l. x 7" w. x 6 1/2" overall height. A very unique feature about this box is that it has a divided interior made from pan bone and wood to create five separate compartments. Lower part of the top lid and the box bottom made from pine wood. Condition overall excellent noting a stable age crack in the pan bone that surrounds the lid. The pincushion fabric in not the original but is older, faded fabric that is a pleasant dusty rose color. Circa 1830-40.
